Short, because we collect almost nothing.

whatif is a place to read one story and save the version you make. We try to hold as little about you as possible.
What we store
Your reading progress lives in your own browser (local storage) on the device you read on. No account, no password.
Your email, only if you give it. If you choose to save your spot, we store your email and your saved version so we can send you a link to pick up on another device and tell you when a new chapter is released. That is the only thing we email you. No selling, no sharing, no marketing lists.
Anonymous, aggregate usage. We may count things like how far readers get and which choices are popular, with no name attached, so we can tell whether people enjoy the story.
What we do not do
We do not sell your data, run third-party ad trackers, or share your email with anyone. You can ask us to delete your email and saved version at any time and we will.
We use the Pinterest API to publish our own posts to our own Pinterest account. whatif is not endorsed by, affiliated with, or sponsored by Pinterest.
We do not connect your Pinterest account, and we do not collect or store any Pinterest data about you. The only Pinterest access we hold is for our own account, used solely to publish our own pins. If we stop using that access, we delete it. We never sell, share, or redistribute Pinterest content or any Pinterest-derived data to third parties. Our use of the Pinterest API complies with Pinterest’s Developer Guidelines and API Terms.
